WHAT IS MEDITATION

Meditation, means "to contemplate". Meditation is used in different belief systems and cultures so it may vary what it means depending on where people are from.

We can see meditation as the contemplation of the present. Many times we think that in meditation we have to switch our thoughts, our brain, off, but unless you reached the famous Nirvana, I think this is quite difficult.

Meditation is a practice that involves focusing the mind and eliminating distractions to achieve a state of mental clarity, emotional stability, and heightened awareness. It often includes techniques such as mindfulness, concentration, and visualization, allowing individuals to cultivate a deeper connection with themselves and their surroundings.

Origins of Meditation

Meditation has ancient roots, with origins traced back thousands of years in various cultures and spiritual traditions. It is believed to have originated in India around 1500 BCE, associated with Hinduism and later Buddhism. Over time, meditation practices spread to other cultures, including Taoism in China and Sufism in Islam, evolving into various forms and techniques.

Different offered Meditations
  • Mindfulness Meditation: Originating from Buddhist practices, this technique involves paying attention to the present moment without judgment, often focusing on the breath or bodily sensations

  • Chakra Meditation: Involves focusing on the body’s energy centers (chakras) to promote balance and healing, often incorporating visualisation and sound

  • Guided Meditation: This form involves following along with a recorded or live guide who leads the practitioner through a specific meditation experience, often incorporating visualisation and relaxation technique

  • Body Scan Meditation: A mindfulness practice that involves paying attention to different parts of the body, promoting relaxation and awareness of physical sensations.

  • Breath meditation: Breath meditation is a simple yet powerful practice that focuses on the natural rhythm of the breath to cultivate mindfulness, relaxation, and self-awareness. This technique is often used in various meditation traditions, including mindfulness and Zen, and serves as an accessible entry point for both beginners and experienced practitioners. The breath is what keeps us in the present and connects body and mind. A powerful tool to silence the mind and let go.
